Winter Cutting Series at Sabre Quarter Horse Ranch

Yesterday we decided to head “out west” and check out the action at the Top Of The Valley winter cutting series held at Sabre Quarter Horse Ranch by Whitewood, Saskatchewan. Being that we didn’t take any horses to show, I just had to take my camera to capture some of the action!

Ellen and Greg Frick of Sabre Quarter Horse Ranch have been breeding quarter horses for over 30 years. Their passion and emphasis is on cow bred horses and they currently stand one of only a few sons of Playgun in Canada. They breed, raise, show and sell quality quarter horses and are proud to be the breeders of 6 time World Champion Apache Blue Boy (Blue Boy Doc X Docs Prescription) as well as NCHA and NRHA money earners.

Ellen and Greg open their arena doors and host numerous events throughout the year. On their website, you’ll find the arena schedule full of clinics, schooling shows, and for the second year…..a winter cutting series. In addition to the busy arena schedule, they also offer boarding, stallion services, Equine Assisted Learning and Equine Therapy.

The images below were taken March 03, 2012. We didn’t quite get there in time to see all the entries in the first class and we weren’t able to stay for the duration of the show (there was over 60 cuts!!! Very impressive for winter on the Canadian prairies!), so I apologize to the competitors if I wasn’t able to stay and get shots of your run. I am planning on being at the next shows to capture all the runs.

Thanks to Greg, Ellen, for organizing such a popular winter event. Thanks also to the competitors who came out to show and to the folks who are behind the scenes helping make everything run smoothly!
