Snack and Gage Fouillard warming up before a barrel run

2007-2021

Sadly, we lost Snack in October of 2021. A bladder stone caused his bladder to rupture and nothing could be done medically or surgically to save him and we had to make the heart breaking decision to euthanize.

On behalf of Gage and Ty Ellis of Spinney Hill Performance Horses and us here at Coyote Ridge Ranch, we thank the incredible team of veterinarians and assistants at Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon SK for their heartfelt effort to save Snack.

For anyone who knew Snack, knew what an incredible stallion he was. Not only as a sire, but as a saddle horse to handle and ride. He was capable of slowing down to help green riders learn the basics, and able to turn up the performance for the elite rider. Not to mention he was indispensable on the ranch. We will be hard pressed to find another one like him and he leaves a giant hole in our hearts.

Thanks for the ride Snacky-pants. You are truly one in a million.

We went looking for a stallion prospect that would epitomize what we are striving to produce: Good looks, awesome disposition, royally cow bred and VERSATILE! And we were lucky to find Snackbox Dually. His sire, 1998 NCHA World Champion, SNACKBOX is siring money earners is cutting, reined cow-horse, reining, ranch horse versatility, barrel and rope horses. His dam is a daughter of one of the most successful cutting sires, DUAL PEP. We know Snackbox Dually has talent in his genes, the look and ability, and a disposition that can’t be beat…..all the makings of a champion.

Snackbox Dually has proven himself as a ranch horse and in four different competition arenas.

-2012 was a great year as “Snack” earned his first NCHA pay cheque and has forayed into the Cowboy Mounted Shooting arena

-2013 was a fast paced year starting off with a trip to sunny and warm Arizona in February for a CMSA shoot where “Snack” and Roberta Quam brought home some new hardware and a hard earned paycheck. In October is was off to Texas for a CMSA shoot in Vernon before heading to the Tony Lama CMSA World Show in Amarillo where “Snack” and Cheyenne (Cain and Roberta’s daughter) proudly carried the Canadian flag for the grand entry. “Snack” wound down 2013 by participating in the 101st CFL Grey Cup Kick Off Party parade in Regina as part of “Team Quam”!

-2014 saw our first “Snack” babies hitting the ground in May and we couldn’t be happier with them! It’s going to be a long two years until we see them under saddle. In April 2014 “Snack” and Roberta Quam clinched a champion win in the L1 class at the Jeffer’s National CMSA show in Tunica MS! After breeding season, “Snack” and Cain teamed up again in November in the mounted shooting pen in Edmonton to win the M3 class (and advanced to M4!) and at Agribition in Regina to win the rifle class!

-2015 and on saw more of Snackbox Dually and #teamquam travelling all over Canada and the US, adding more wins and earnings under his cinch.

-2019 was “Snack’s” introduction to barrel racing! He finished breeding season, hopped onto a trailer with our friend Gage Fouillard and started patterning and conditioning the next day with his first jackpot just two weeks later. We look forward to continuing promoting him in the barrel pen in 2020.

-2020 saw Snack hit the barrel pen with Gage and start his introduction to the roping arena with Ty at Spinney Hill Performance Horses!

-2021 was the year that Snack found his love heading, he was a natural at it. Quiet but explosive out of the box and able to rate well thanks to his time spent cutting. He was well on his way to becoming a roping superstar with Gage and Ty.
